PROFESSOR PARKER HENDERSON

Professor Parker Henderson’ s journey in hospitality began at age 14 , working at Dunkin’ Donuts. Inspired by mentors during his undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University, he pursued graduate studies at Virginia Tech, where he further refined his expertise. Today, Parker is a lecturer at Virginia Tech and serves as Brand Leader for Graduate by Hilton, managing 34 hotels that celebrate university communities. His work bridges industry and academia, offering students invaluable insights into the hospitality world. His commitment to unique guest experiences and his passion for teaching make him a standout faculty member.

TAWFIQ IRSHAIDAT

Driven to make an impact in global hospitality, Tawfiq Irshaidat now thrives as Development Manager for Hilton in the Middle East & Africa. Based in Dubai, he focuses on expanding Hilton’ s footprint, especially in Saudi Arabia, under the guidance of Carlos Khneisser, VP of Development for the region. His MSBA from Virginia Tech, along with mentorship from Professor Parker Henderson, helped him break into the competitive development field. Tawfiq’ s advice to students: be patient and stay focused on your goals. Summer Internship Experience with Nathaly Loyola-Rodriguez

Driven by a passion to make a difference, Nathaly Loyola-Rodriguez spent her summer as a Patient Advocacy Intern at the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF). She organized a mini health clinic in Flint, Michigan, offering free health screenings, vaccines, and educational resources to underserved communities. This experience gave Nathaly hands-on training in event planning, vendor negotiations, and logistics, building skills she will carry into her future in hospitality room operations. Despite challenges, Nathaly’s dedication to advocacy and improving quality of life for marginalized groups shone through, making her internship both impactful and transformative.

The Hokie Hike at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park on October 20th was a fantastic success, bringing together students, faculty, alumni, and friends of Virginia Tech for a day filled with adventure and Hokie pride. Participants enjoyed scenic trails, vibrant fall foliage, and the chance to connect with fellow Hokies, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
