About
Welcome to Hospitality and Tourism Management @ Virginia Tech!
Thank you for visiting our website to learn about the Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management. I would like to take this opportunity to share some information about our internationally ranked undergraduate degree, industry-driven Master’s degree located in the National Capital Region (NCR), graduate certificates, and the globally-renowned Ph.D. program.
The HTM undergraduate program is unique in that it is located within the Pamplin College of Business, an AACSB-accredited and nationally ranked business school. Our students are immersed in “the Business of Hospitality and Tourism,” gaining core skills in finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, international business, revenue management, information technology and digital media. We prepare our students to become thoughtful, creative leaders in the industry by providing a caring and inspiring learning environment. We are very proud to say that our graduate placement rate is among the highest on campus!
In addition, we offer a number of opportunities for dual majors, both within the Pamplin College of Business and beyond, which includes our recently developed HTM/Real Estate double major. Students also have the opportunity to participate in our accelerated Master’s program to earn the MSBA degree within one year after graduating from the undergraduate program.
Our Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA) HTM degree is located in the nation’s hub for hospitality business, the National Capital Region (NCR). Housed on our Falls Church, VA campus, the MSBA HTM curriculum was developed in close consultation with our industry partners and departmental advisory board. Students pursuing either the MSBA in HTM or MBA with an HTM focus will gain core skills in hospitality finance, revenue and asset management, business analytics, and hospitality real estate with the emphasis on leadership development and team building/communication. In addition, we offer three certificate programs including International Hospitality and Tourism Strategy (IHTS), Entrepreneurship in HTM (EHTM), and HTM Business Analytics and Revenue Management (BARM), which can be taken independently or as part of the MSBA degree. Each of these certificates consists of three courses and can be completed in one semester. The BARM certificate is available 100% online.
Finally, we offer one of the world’s premier Ph.D. programs in Hospitality and Tourism Management, i.e., the Pamplin College of Business Ph.D. in Business with an HTM Concentration. A Ph.D. in Business degree differentiates our program from many other HTM Ph.D. programs in the nation and around the world. Our internationally reputed faculty conduct diverse but cutting-edge research in areas such as consumer behavior, social and economic development, strategy, revenue management and analytics, sustainability, innovation, and information technology in the field of hospitality and tourism. We are extremely proud that many of our graduates have gone on to become world-renowned scholars and leaders in higher education in hospitality and tourism management on the global stage.
