The Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management is proud to present IGNITE Event Excellence: The EEMG Innovation Showcase — an evening dedicated to student innovation, industry engagement, and academic celebration. The event will be held on Thursday, April 24th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Wallace Hall Atrium.

Event Summary:
The event will spotlight student excellence by featuring innovative projects, experiences, and scenarios from both the Fall and Spring semesters. These projects highlight a blend of academic achievement and hands-on learning, illustrating the practical application of classroom concepts. Students will compete in four designated competition categories:

  • Event Management
  • Catering
  • Event Capstone
  • Hospitality Sales

 Professionals from the event management and hospitality industries will serve as judges for the competitions. 

Event Schedule:

  • 5:00 PM – Doors open to attendees
  • 5:30 PM – Ribbon cutting and keynote address
  • 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM – Networking and project showcase
  • 6:45 PM – 7:30 PM – Awards ceremony
  • 7:30 PM – Event conclusion

Attendees will enjoy a selection of passed hors d’oeuvres and beverages, with attire set as business casual.

Keynote Speaker:
The event proudly features Lori Collier Waran, President of NASCAR’s Richmond Raceway, as the keynote speaker. Lori is the first female track president at Richmond Raceway and has built a formidable career spanning media, sports, and leadership. From her early work in Washington, D.C. to heading Richmond-based Style Weekly Media and now leading one of NASCAR’s most iconic tracks, Lori brings invaluable insights into innovation, fan engagement, and breaking barriers. Her recent honors include being named to Virginia Business Magazine’s 100 People to Meet in 2023 and Remarkable Woman of the Year, among many others.
