Biography
Tom Duetsch has more 25 years of industry experience in various areas of hospitality (university hotel and conference operations and private clubs). He served as an adjunct instructor for Virginia Tech beginning in 2005 and joined the full-time HTM faculty in August 2019. He started his career in student affairs at the University of Delaware and then transitioned into a hotel and conference services role, opening and managing UD’s first hotel property on campus. He then moved to Blacksburg and coordinated on-campus summer conference housing and led Residential and Dining programs marketing efforts for almost 3 years before becoming general manager of the Blacksburg Country Club for almost 20 years.
In addition to teaching, Tom has the pleasure of advising two of HTM’s student organizations, the Hospitality Management Association (HMA) and the Club Manager’s Association of America (CMAA). He is the primary departmental contact for companies recruiting our Feiertag HTM students and coordinates (with help from HMA) our fall and spring career fairs.
Tom received his BS is political science from the College of William and Mary and a Masters in Student Development from the University of Maryland at College Park.
